We are recruiting experienced Band 5 Staff Nurses to our new 22-bedded ICU.
If you're passionate about caring for critically ill patients and keen to develop skills in advanced respiratory and cardiac support, we offer a structured development programme and strong support from our Practice Development Team and MDT.
We provide opportunities to complete the Critical Care Course and access ongoing professional education through our university partners.
We are looking for motivated nurses who uphold NMC and Trust values, deliver excellent patient care and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
You will have excellent opportunities to grow your skills, gain specialist experience and develop your critical care career.
Informal visits to the unit are encouraged.
Main duties of the jobBand 5 Critical Care Staff Nurse
The Band 5 Critical Care Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based care to critically ill patients, in line with Trust values, NMC standards, and the workforce expectations outlined in GPICS.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, patient centred care across Levels 2 and 3, ensuring continuous assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support safe, effective, and timely decision making.
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold professional, ethical and medico legal standards consistent with critical care governance requirements.
- Contribute to maintaining safe staffing by working autonomously within scope of practice and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Participate in competency based education and development, including acquisition of specialist critical care skills, in line with GPICS workforce recommendations.
- Support a culture of safety, incident reporting, learning and quality improvement.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families and colleagues, ensuring dignity and holistic support at all times.

- Mentorship or equivalent Vocational assessor qualification (Desirable)

- Good grounding in general/surgical nursing skills and knowledge (Essential)
- Substantive experience in managing patients in an acute environment (Essential)
