Staff Nurse Cardiac Day Unit

We are looking for a registered nurse with experience of working in cardiology nursing who has a good understanding of cardiac procedures. Experience of working in a cardiac day unit / cath lab would be advantageous. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously or as part of the wider cardiac team supporting the safe delivery of day case cardiac procedures. The role involves pre assessment, procedural and post procedural care of patients attending for permanent pacemaker insertion, angiograms, trans oesophageal echos, loop implant and explants and dobutamine stress echos. This is a supported role where training and ongoing development will be provided. The successful candidate will receive guidance from experienced team members and mentors and given professional development opportunities. The opening hours of the lab are Monday to Friday 08:00-18:00.

Job responsibilities

To provide pre and post procedure care and to assist medical staff with Cardiology diagnostic day case procedures including TOE, Dobutamine Stress Test, Loop recorder insertion, Pacemaker insertion and Angiography.

To demonstrate a high standard of practice in assessing, implementing and evaluating patient care.

To be involved in Service development in collaboration with the Department Manager / Charge Nurse.

To promote and engage in a nurse-led environment ensuring that care is delivered as per trust policies and procedures and in accordance with evidence-based practice in line with agreed national standards for clinical practice.

To participate in teaching, education and training.

Be aware of budget and resource management within the unit.

Person Specification Statutory Registration
  • UK RGN NMC registration.
  • DBS clearance.
Special Skills & Knowledge
  • Awareness of Health and Safety / Clinical
  • Governance issues.
  • Experience of using EPR on a regular basis.
  • Basic IT skills, including e-mail and word processing.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Experience in an interventional Theatres / anaesthetics.
  • Experience in Cardiology.
  • Clinical Skills IV cannulation, venepuncture, ECG.
Qualifications
  • RGN
  • Diploma/Degree
  • Excellent standards of nursing care
Experience
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
