An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 paediatric staff nurse to join the team in RHC ward 3b on a full time basis. Ward 3b is a 24 bed unit with a large speciality group including surgical and gastroenterology patients. There is a vast amount of learning opportunities within the unit and a great team of nursing staff to support the successful candidate in their role. The candidate must have a valid/Live NMC pin and be paediatric trained. They should have good communication skills and work well in the MDT team.
RoleCare will be provided within a clinical setting to patients with a range of dependency levels. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care within a supportive environment that meets the identified physical, psychological and social needs of patients. A family centred approach to care will be maintained at all times.
Duration, Location and Working PatternThis is a full time permanent post.
Royal Hospital for Children.
The shift pattern will be worked over rotational, days/nights, 7 day cover.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will provide a high standard of nursing care within the clinical area, ensuring that patient needs are assessed and that care is planned, implemented and evaluated in partnership with patients and carers. They will be responsible for maintaining patient records to the required standards, ensuring high quality documentation within their area of responsibility. The role contributes to the development of programmes of care and involves providing guidance to junior staff when managing more complex patient groups.
The post holder will delegate tasks appropriately, taking account of staff capability and skill mix, and will ensure that care is individualised to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the child and family. They will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support shared objectives and promote best practice. The role also supports effective communication and collaboration between hospital and community services to ensure seamless, patient centred care for the child and family.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience RequiredIt is essential that you are a registered nurse.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part time working hours will be reduced on a pro rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
