The roleAn exciting opportunity has arisen to work in Day Surgery Unit/In Patient Theatres at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. Band 5 Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner. The Day Surgery Unit consists of one theatre, one minor room, recovery and ward area. The In Patient Theatre consists of 6 operating theatres and a recovery room. The unit provides peri operative care for patients undergoing a range of surgical procedures including General Surgery, elective Orthopaedics, ophthalmology and cardiology. Within the Day Surgery Unit surgeries include gynaecology, urology, dental, orthopaedics, ENT and plastic surgery.
Duration, Location, and Working PatternThis is a permanent part time post of 17.8 hours per week.
Please note the salary is pro rata for part time hours.
Based at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

Key responsibilities- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates programmes of care with reference to patients, without direct supervision.
- Carries out and maintains the provision of seamless care for patients from admission to discharge by utilising efficient verbal and written communication practices with all members of the Multi Disciplinary Team / Primary Care Services and carers.
- Requires to act as Team Leader on a regular basis taking responsibility for a defined group of patients within clinical specialty.
- In the absence of senior staff, take charge of the department for the management of daily responsibilities, including work allocation, deployment and supervision of staff, to ensure smooth running of the area.
- In conjunction with the senior nurse ensures that nursing resource is utilised efficiently by managing on duty rosters, short notice sickness absence and manpower resources to comply with agreed policy and procedure.
- Maintains effective management of ward/department resources including stores, supplies and medicines.
