Job Description
Staff Nurse (CACU) Cardiac and Acute Care Unit

Specific Purpose: This role requires 37.5 hours per week and involves delivering high standard nursing care to post surgery cardiac patients.

Job Purpose

Staff nurses (CACU) provide nursing care, applying the nursing process and scientific knowledge to support the patient population of Cardiac and Acute Care post surgery.

Ideal Candidate
  • Ability to work as part of a team, providing quality service;
  • Personally and professionally accountable for patient care;
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) and registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI);
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Flexible approach to work patterns, rotating between day and night shifts.
Essential Qualifications
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI);
  • 1 or 2 years nursing experience post registration, preferably in Coronary Care or ICU areas.
Experience & Responsibilities
  • Carry out nursing care and treatments to the highest standard in accordance with agreed policies, procedures and guidelines;
  • Participate in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care based on the nursing process and maintain appropriate records;
  • Implement discharge planning according to patient needs;
  • Administer medicines, IV drugs, blood/blood products and controlled drugs as per policy;
  • Record and monitor patients post administration, reporting any adverse events or medication errors;
  • Adhere to best practice infection control guidelines, reporting and managing infections in accordance with policy and in collaboration with the Infection Control Nurse;
  • Handle and dispose of medical waste correctly as per hospital policy.
