Job Description
Professional appointments (Speech and Language Therapist, Social Worker and Podiatrist ) to CORU's Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board, Social Workers Registration Board and Podiatrists Registration Board

The Minister for Health invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and registered persons in the following professions:

(i) speech and language therapists who are engaged in the practice of the profession to apply for the upcoming vacancy on the SLTRB,
(ii) social workers who are engaged in the management of services provided by the profession to apply for the upcoming vacancy on the SWRB, and
(iii) podiatrists who are engaged in the management of services provided by the profession for the upcoming vacancy on the PODRB

following elections for these positions where no nominations were received.

Candidates' attention is drawn to the provisions of the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies in relation to the role of a Board member, where the principle states:

  • Each state body should be headed by an effective board which is collectively responsible for the long-term sustainability of the body.
  • Non-executive board members should bring an independent judgement to bear on issues of strategy, performance resources, key appointments and standard of conduct.

Details on the role of board members can be found in Section 3 of the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies which can be found here.

Candidates must demonstrate evidence of experience of the Irish healthcare system as well as experience of one or more of the following:

  • Corporate governance
  • Risk management
  • Change management
  • Strategy development
  • Regulation knowledge/experience
  • Evidence of an ability to work with others and build consensus with a broad range of stakeholders.

Previous experience of board membership is also considered desirable.
