Specialty Doctor in Willow Ward - Rehabilitation Psychiatry

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a committed and compassionate Specialty Doctor to join Willow Ward and the Open Mental Health Rehabilitation Team. This substantive post offers the opportunity to work within an innovative model that integrates inpatient and community rehabilitation, delivered in partnership with voluntary and community organisations. Based at Broadway Park in Bridgwater, you will provide day-to-day medical care including ward rounds, patient reviews, medication management, tribunal reports and community assessments, while supporting multidisciplinary team management of a diverse caseload. The role also involves contributing to service development, clinical governance and strategic planning, alongside teaching, research and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. With a job plan of nine programmed activities for direct clinical care and one for supporting professional activities, you will be encouraged to participate in CPD, audit and leadership opportunities. Applicants must hold full GMC registration, an appropriate medical degree and at least four years' postgraduate experience in mental health. Main duties of the job

As Specialty Doctor in Willow Ward and the Open Mental Health Rehabilitation Team you will provide day to day medical care for patients across both inpatient and community settings. This includes ward rounds, individual patient reviews, medication management, tribunal reports and community assessments, all delivered in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. You will contribute to the development of rehabilitation services alongside consultants, clinical directors and service managers, ensuring continuity of care and supporting service quality. The role requires active participation in teaching, supervision of junior doctors and medical students, and engagement with the Trust's academic programme, including CPD lectures and seminars. You will also undertake administrative duties linked to patient care, support clinical governance and strategic planning, and participate in annual appraisal and job plan reviews. Working closely with colleagues and system partners, you will help shape service development, promote wellbeing within the team, and uphold Trust policies and procedures in financial and clinical management.
