Barnsley NHS Foundation Trust are looking torecruit an enthusiastic individual to work as a Specialty Doctor in OralSurgery. The post-holder will work with the current Oral Surgery / Oral andMaxillofacial surgery team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity for the successfulpost holder to develop a close workingrelationship across Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery (OMFS) and Oral Surgery(OS) within and outside of the Trust to deliver effective care for thepopulation of Barnsley.
We are nowseeking a Specialty Doctor who will workclosely with the existing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinaryteam to provide a comprehensive service to patients. This post will appeal to appropriatelytrained and accredited clinicians who have enthusiasm and who are looking for astimulating and challenging career. Theywill become an integral part of the routine workload and casemix management,with a key administrative input and some clinical freedom to developinterests. Whilst not a formal trainingpost, we would encourage and support ongoing personal development.
Thisis a full-time post, working weekday standard day hours providing up to 10Programmed Activities (PAs), but the Trust is happy to consider part time, flexible workingarrangements and / or extended days to deliver a desirable work life balance,support professional goals and personal development.
Main duties of the jobThe Oral Surgery/OMFS Departments employdentally and medically qualified staff. This role is intended to be pivotal inensuring the efficient running of the routine workload of the Oral Surgery / OMFSdepartment. The postholder will be expected to take on appropriateadministrative tasks with training and support. This may include delegation oftasks and the provision of advice and formal teaching to more junior dentallytrained clinical staff. A dental degree,GDC Registration, MFDS and substantial past relevant experience areessential. Post graduate qualificationswould be considered advantageous.
Familiarity with the common andsignificant medical comorbidities relevant to surgical treatment and theirefficient management is needed. The ability to diagnose radiologicalabnormalities commonly encountered in referrals from dental practice is key tothe correct triage of referrals, which the post holder may become involved in,depending on progress and ability.
Youwill not be required to participate in an on-call rota. Your background would include substantialexperience in managing the simpler acute traumatic injuries forming the routineworkload of an OMFS Department and experience of triaging, handling andappropriate onward referral of more complex or significant injuries andemergency presentations.

Person Specification Clinical Expertise- Delivery of oral surgical care under local/general anaesthetic
- Participation in consultant clinic
- General OMFS Trauma and Emergencies experience.
- Evidence of courses attended e.g. basic skills course , Surgical techniques, fracture management
- Ability to work as sole operator where appropriate
- Evidence of cases completed / personal portfolio
- SAAD certification or appropriate sedation qualification
- Evidence of completed and actioned audit projects
- Ability to time manage self and others
- Evidence of ongoing projects /planned audit areas/QI projects
- Evidence of team management rostering / delegation / administrative role outcomes
- Good command of English and meet the scoring criteria for IELTS
- Additional training in patient management ( hypnosis, alternative methods of anxiety management)
- Confidence and clarity in communicating with the wider dental team including primary sector
- MFDS or Equivalent
- Full Registration with GDC
- MB or Medical qualification
- Other Postgraduate Qualification(s)
- Minimum 4 years post BDS
- MFDS holder
- Minimum of 3 yrs DCT experience ideally substantially within a surgical speciality or equivalent
- Experience as single operator
- Delivery of sedation
- Substantial experience in Oral surgery , management of facial Trauma, management of complex medical comorbidities relating to dental surgical care.
- IRMER Training related to dentistry
- Evidence of courses and attendance at Clinical Meetings
- Sedation Training
- CBCT level 1 and 2 training
- Suitable Postgraduate courses / certification / Achievements relevant to practice of OMFS at SAS level
- Evidence of CPD
- Peer reviewed Research Publications
- or National Oral Presentations
