We have an opportunity for a full time Specialty Doctor to shape services at Cygnet Hospital Bury Forestwood on our 12 bed GAU.

About us

Cygnet has been providing a national network of high quality specialist mental health services for more than 30 years, with 85% of our services rated Good or Outstanding.

Service overview

Cygnet Bury Forestwood offers CAMHS Tier 4 PICU, General Acute and Low Secure services across four wards, with a defined treatment pathway from admission through to intervention and discharge.

Each service user has a bedroom with en suite facilities and communal spaces such as a gym, laundry, occupational therapy kitchen, therapy garden, and woodland walkways to the Elton Reservoir.

Our on site school, Forestwood School, is registered with the Department for Education.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide routine medical and psychiatric support including initial clerking and mental state examination of newly admitted patients.
  • Carry out assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients.
  • Maintain good communication with ward nursing staff, mental health professionals and other agencies as required.
  • Participate in weekly ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings including CPA, Tribunal hearings and Section 117 meetings.
  • Maintain full records of medical and psychiatric assessments and interventions.
  • Prepare discharge summaries in line with company policies and guidelines.
  • Attend mandatory training (BLS, ILS, Breakaway/PMVA training, Moving and Transferring, Infection Control, H&S).
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, directors and other concerned bodies, maintaining appropriate reports.
  • Participate in the duty doctor on call rota as required.
Qualifications and experience
  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
  • Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in relevant mental health specialities.
  • Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
  • First rate communicator capable of interviewing, assessing, treating patients and writing clear, comprehensive medical notes.
  • Committed to continued professional development.
  • Able to work as part of a multi disciplinary team.
  • Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.

Our CESR programme

This programme will help you develop the skills needed to progress to Consultant level; you will rotate within wards/services to gain experience across various subspecialties, receive support with MRCPsych exams and have an educational supervisor to review your progress.
