Specialty Doctor - Older People's Services

UHD requires a Geriatric Medicine Speciality Doctor to fulfil the roles within our Older People's Services and Acute Care directorate. The post holder will be predominantly ward based and gain a wide range of experience and undertake on call.
The role will be required to work with other grades of staff, and help out with ward rounds, admitting patients and clinics.

Main duties of the job- Working alongside our existing specialty doctors and trainee Geriatric registrars to provide care to inpatients including new admissions
- Supervision and support of junior medical colleagues, Physicians Associates and Advanced Nurse Practitioners/Advanced Clinical Practitioners
- Attending ward multidisciplinary meetings
- Attending and contributing to educational sessions and Clinical Governance meetings
- Teaching Medical and Physician's Associates students
- Participating in the hospital appraisal process as part of on going professional development
- Potential weekend working within the ortho geriatric service

There is a planned move for this service where this role and base of work will relocate to the Bournemouth Hospital site. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality care across seven days, this post may involve participation in an out of hours rota, including evenings, weekends, and/or bank holidays, in accordance with service needs. Any work undertaken outside standard hours/PA's will attract remuneration in line with the respective NHS Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service.
Person Specification- Good skills in Communication, Interpersonal and Organisational
- Ability to prioritise workload and use initiative
- Ability to know own limitations and when to seek help
- Meet requirements of GMC's Good Medical Practice
- Full GMC Registration
- Good level of Computer literacy and IT research skills
- Can evidence successful completion of foundation competencies
- Completed training to IMT2 Level
- Can evidence experience of working within Geriatric Medicine
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary team
- Able to work positively and engage with all staff groups
- Evidence of team leadership
- Eligibility or valid/relevant GMC registration
- Completion of foundation training
- Completion of IMT2 level and evidence of MRCP part 1
- Passed MRCP parts 1 and 2
- Compliant with mandatory training
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- ALS
- Able to speak English as necessary for the role
