Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide clinical assessment of our one-stop pathway patients to meet Urgent Suspected Cancer demands. Some of the work involves follow-up breast cancer patients and management of symptoms of menopause caused by hormonal treatment of breast cancer

About us

The Breast Care Directorate sits within the Planned Care Delivery Unit at Torbay Hospital. This is a diagnostic outpatient service with surgical and non-surgical cancer treatment.

Approx 350 new breast cancer cases are treated per year. The unit operates with close working between radiology, surgery, breast care nursing staff, pathology and oncology.

The Breast Care Unit has 2 digital mammography rooms, 2 ultrasound rooms and a shared clinic/ultrasound room. Access to imaging is available for all urgent surgical referrals. Wire and Magseed localisation and image-guided biopsies are performed at the unit. MRI Breast is performed in selected cases. The unit has a suite of 5 surgical consulting rooms.

The Unit hosts the South Devon Breast Screening Programme

The screening service covers Teignbridge, SouthHams and Torbay footprint for a population of 40,000 women aged 50 -70 years.
