Specialty Dentist Special Care Dentistry at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Denmark Hill). This is a full-time replacement post in special care dentistry to provide dental treatment under sedation (intravenous and inhalation sedation) or local anaesthesia. Treatment under general anaesthesia is provided on a weekly basis. The post holder will be required to support the GA service.

Main duties of the job- Together with other colleagues, to provide a high-quality care service to patients. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
- Shared responsibility with other colleagues for covering colleagues' periods of annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contract.
- Responsible for contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group's management team where part of the service structure.
- Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from Deaths.
- Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
- Fostering and developing projects to ensure that the momentum of post-qualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintained.
- Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced.
- Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
The Department of Community Special Care Dentistry forms part of the Dental Care Group of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and has been Consultant-led since 2002.
The Department is commissioned by NHS England to provide special care and community dental services across Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Kingston, Richmond, Wandsworth, Croydon, Merton & Sutton. It also provides special care dental care services within the Dental Hospital for medically complex patients (including oncology, transplant, haematology, and cardiac patients), those who require treatment under intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia, and for bariatric patients. The department also provides a mobile dental service for those experiencing homelessness across Lambeth & Southwark. The appointee will be expected to assess and treat urgent cardiac cases prior to surgery.

Job responsibilitiesThe post will be based at King's College Hospital Denmark Hill site with the opportunity to provide dental treatment at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup. A definitive Job Plan would be agreed with the successful applicant.

- Experience in the dental management of medically compromised patients.
- Contribution to guidelines or protocols for delivering oral healthcare to patients that require special care dentistry.
- Publication of relevant review articles or case reports. Experience of clinical research.
- Experience of provision of dental treatment under general anaesthesia and all appropriate conscious sedation techniques.
- Effective communicator, able to work in a close-knit team and cooperate with all dental, medical and paramedical staff. Flexible, able to cover colleagues' absence.
