Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Specialty Doctor within our Elderly Mental Health service based at Ailsa Hospital in Ayr.

Hours and Shift Pattern

Full time hours 9-5 Monday to Friday, No on call.

What you will do

Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry. Following the progression of the incumbent doctor into higher training, we are looking to recruit a permanent Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry in the South Ayrshire Locality. South Ayrshire has around 31,000 over 65s in a mixed urban and rural catchment area. There are two Old Age Psychiatry Consultants and two Specialty Doctor posts for the South Ayrshire Locality (including covering Ayrshire wide provision of HBCCC beds at Ailsa Hospital). The post will be based at Ailsa Hospital, where the Community Mental Health Team for the Elderly and NHS Complex Clinical Care beds are located. Acute inpatients are in the new purpose-built facility at Woodland View unit at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine. The successful applicant will have ward doctor responsibility for 12 organic HBCCC inpatient beds at Ailsa. A degree of cross cover is expected with the other Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry who is also based at Ailsa Hospital and covers the Functional HBCCC ward also at Ailsa. The post holder will participate in CMHTE meetings, conduct outpatient clinics and domiciliary visits. Participation in the out of hours rota is not required.

Requirements

Appropriately experienced applicants must have full registration and current Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Registrar. The applicant would be expected to drive and have access to a car, as the post is geographically spread out and may include domiciliary visits in rural locations not well served by public transport.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • Full GMC registration and Licence to Practice.
  • Minimum 4 years postgraduate training, at least two of which have been in Core Psychiatry Training post or equivalent.
  • A degree of basic general medical skills.
  • Possession of Section 22 approval (or intention to apply for this) is required.
Full UK Driving Licence/Access to a vehicle

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential to this role.
