We are recruiting for a Specialist Renal Dietitian who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We are recruiting a Dietitian with a keen interest in Renal care. A professional looking to develop their skills in this speciality amongst established and experienced peers.

Based at the Lister Hospital Stevenage, but covering the dialysis units across Herts, Beds and West Essex, the successful post holder will work within a supportive, and dynamic multidisciplinary service including medical, AHP, social work and psychotherapy teams.

We encourage Band 5 and Band 6 candidates to apply as training and support can be tailored to the successful candidates needs alongside structured clinical and management and supervision.

This role involves significant input to the management of undernutrition, including enteral and parenteral nutrition, and the opportunity to work with a diverse population across a large geographical area. Main duties of the job

As an autonomous practitioner, working closely with members of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide a clinical nutrition & dietetic service to adults presenting with acute and chronic kidney disease.

The Specialist Renal Dietitian will demonstrate sound problem solving skills where there is considerable variation in the presentation and health needs of service users. You will gain significant clinical experience in the management of adults presenting with multiple co-morbidities, and those requiring nutritional support.

The post holder will contribute to the review, development and implementation of the service; undertake practice supervision of students, and develop, implement and review evidence based nutrition and dietetic resources.

This post is offered on a full time basis, those seeking part time hours, or job share will also be considered as will flexible working hours.

Person Specification Qualification and Training
  • Degree or post graduate qualification in nutrition & dietetics
  • Registered practitioner - current HCPC registered dietitian
  • Record of continuous professional training and development evidenced through professional portfolio
  • Willingness to undertake training and development relevant and required for job role
  • Record of completion of post graduate training and/or development relevant to the management of adults presenting with acute and chronic kidney disease stage 4 and 5
  • Record of completion of enteral/parenteral nutrition course
  • Record of completion of clinical supervisory skills/mentoring course and/or coaching course
Previous Experience
  • Broad range of post qualification clinical experience that includes adults requiring nutritional support; adults presenting with acute and chronic kidney disease stage 4 and 5
  • Participated in audit or research linked to practice improvement
  • Training and development of junior staff, students, and members of the wider MDT
  • Is able to demonstrate their clinical effectiveness
  • Has worked within the NHS
  • Practice supervision of junior staff/students
  • Post qualification dietetic experience of working with adults requiring renal replacement therapy
  • Publication and/or dissemination of research and/or audit at regional or national level
Skills
  • Able to work on own initiative/autonomously and can demonstrate effective prioritisation and management of workload
  • Can demonstrate exceptional time management and organisational skills, ensuring the efficient and productive use of available resource
  • Can demonstrate exceptional communication skills, preventing the escalation of problems and complaints, facilitating a constructive and positive outcome
  • Has the ability to analyse and interpret complex/ often incomplete information, pre-empt and evaluate issues, and recommend and appropriate course of action to address the issues
  • Provides strong and effective clinical leadership, able to motivate and lead others and manage change effectively

  • Knowledge, skill and experience across the continuum of clinical care; acute and chronic kidney disease, post kidney transplantation and a range of treatment modalities
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and is proactive in the understanding of risk management, health and safety
  • Can critically evaluate service delivery and design, and make recommendations for improvement
