Job Description

We would like to invite registered Occupational Therapists/Speech and Language Therapists to apply for an exciting band 6-7 development post as an autism/ADHD diagnostician.

Please note the role is for 2 days a week and will be mainly clinic based. You will be provided with the relevant training and supervision for the role. You will work through competencies to move through your development.

As a crucial member of our multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to assessing, and supporting children with neurodevelopmental conditions.The successful candidate will need to be adaptable and have strong engagement skills, excellent communication skills and experience of working and collaborating with highly skilled and passionate experts, including nurses, clinical psychologists, allied health professionals, and psychiatrists.

Main duties of the job
  • To be accountable in own area of clinical responsibility, ensuring the delivery of evidence based clinical Autism and ADHD assessments, interventions and practice.

To demonstrate good clinical skills in Autism and ADHD assessments and when needed provide supervision of staff undertaking assessments and interventions.

To liaise closely with other members of the MDT to ensure a detailed and complete diagnostic assessment is completed in line with NICE guidance.

Be responsible for ensuring clinical outcome data is routinely entered and appropriately collated

To employ excellent presentation skills to promote multi-disciplinary and interagency liaison and collaborative practice to broad range of audiences, including other professionals and service users.

To continuously evaluate the level of clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and outcome measures

To maintain knowledge of current research and clinical developments and to take the lead in research/audit within adult autism diagnosis.

To engage in the supervision process and commit to development competencies

Job responsibilities

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Registered with appropriate clinical professional body: e.g. Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Nursing, Speech and Language Therapy or Psychology (Educational, Counselling, Clinical or Forensic) and be registered with the relevant statutory body (NMC, HCPC, ACP, BABCP, UKCP, SWE, SCW, SSSC or NISCC or BACP)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent as required for registration with professional body.
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation and guidance relevant to working with Children.
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit
  • Evidenced commitment to CPD and advancement of knowledge in Neurodiversity
  • Advanced clinical reasoning skills and understanding of the varied presentations of Autism/ADHD
  • Advanced understanding of relevant clinical practice, in particular Autism/ADHD diagnostics, standards and protocols
  • Post-graduate ADHD/ASD diagnostic training e.g., Conners, SNAP, ADI-R, ADOS, DISCO
Experience
  • Evidence of suitable post-registration professional practice, in hospital or other healthcare setting
  • Demonstrable experience of working with neurodiversity
  • Evidence of leadership skills e.g. managing people, service development
  • Demonstrable track record of assessing ASD or ADHD using recommended tools
Skills and Competencies
  • Effective inter-personal skills and experience in supervising and mentoring and teaching
  • Able to demonstrate good communication skills across a range of mediums
  • Able to communicate effectively and sensitively with children and their carers
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
