Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a fixed term (9 months) Specialist Biomedical Scientist within the North Glasgow Haematology & Blood Transfusion Department. The successful applicant will be required after suitable training to work a 24/7 shift over 7 days, across all 3 sites of North Glasgow (GRI, GGH and Stobhill ACH)

Minimum Qualifications for the posts are outlined below:

  • Must have an appropriate BSc Honours degree or equivalent, acceptable for Health Professions Council Registration.
  • Must be registered to practice as a Biomedical Scientist with the HCPC.
  • Must have post registration experience in a Haematology/Transfusion laboratory.
  • Candidates should hold a Specialist Certificate in Haematology/Hospital Transfusion Practice but consideration will be given to candidates who have not yet obtained the certificate and they will be employed on Annexe 21 of Band 6.
