Specialised Clinical Physiologist (Neurophysiology) - Band 7 on the Sir Jules Thorn Telemetry Unit at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 Specialised Clinical Physiologist to provide high quality Video-EEG Telemetry studies for service users within the Epilepsy surgery program and neurological sleep services.
Our telemetry team provides the full range of video EEG services including diagnostic studies, pre-surgical studies including ictal SPECTo, invasive studies (with subdural and depth SEEG electrodes), physiologist-led electrocorticography, polysomnography, MSLT, actigraphy, and at-home polysomnography and diagnostic videotelemetry.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and engaging individual with experience within the field of Clinical Neurophysiology.
Main duties of the jobYour main responsibilities will include:
- Provide a highly complex, specialist Clinical Neurophysiology service.
- Provide a specialist physiologist-led electrocorticography service during surgery for epilepsy and brain tumours when the procedure is carried out with the patient awake and cortical stimulation is required.
- Undertake interpretation of results and provision of written factual reports, communicating directly with consultant staff regarding any findings.
- Present the findings of the video telemetry studies at the weekly multidisciplinary meeting, and contribute to ward rounds and teaching sessions on the unit.
- Provide assistance with and actively participate in research projects carried out on the telemetry unit.
- Education and training of techniques to new staff and demonstration of the telemetry unit activity to professional visitors.
- Provide support to more junior staff on the unit.
- Participate in quality assurance and audit within the department and on a regional basis.

Person Specification Knowledge & Qualifications- BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent
- IRCP Part I or equivalent
- Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent experience
- Member of Professional Organisation
- Must be able to perform the full range of neurophysiological investigations (EEG, EPs, NCS), including reviewing and preparing factual reports
- Able to work autonomously for standard clinical work and under supervision for more complex procedures (e.g., invasive recordings and ECoG)
- Demonstrate knowledge of specialist procedures via accredited courses or equivalent experience
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Demonstrate underpinning knowledge of more specialist skills and ability to perform long-term monitoring (video-EEG telemetry/ambulatory recording) with factual reporting
- Evidence of experience supervising students or trainees
- Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, including those with communication difficulties or challenging behaviour
- Ability to communicate with departmental medical staff regarding complex data
- Ability to communicate effectively with other health care professionals
- Ability to inform visitors about the work of the department
- Provide evidence of practical skills to record routine neurophysiology investigations
- Ability to work in challenging environments and with patients who may be challenging or confrontational
- Ability to organise and prioritise own work
- Experience in supervising student staff and visitors
