Our multi-award-winning organisation is seeking a Sous Chef to join the Hospitality team at Vi and John Rubens House Nursing Home in Ilford (IG2 6JH), with the exciting opportunity to move to our brand-new Sugar and Ronson Campus and the new Sugar Family Care Home (IG4 5LN) in early summer 2026. Our sociable working hours offer the perfect work-life balance and you'll be able to make a real difference to our service users and residents through providing great quality meals and catering. Our campus locations offer a great working environment, with the opportunity to work with a diverse and brilliant team. You'll also support in the catering for our numerous events. If you are not familiar with Kosher kitchen practices, don't worry - full training is provided.
Working Hours & ShiftsYou will be working 5 out of 7 days including weekends (averaging 1 weekend in 3) with occasional evening shifts for special events (averaging 1 a month). This post is 40 hours a week on a shift basis. The shifts are:
- 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (8 hours with a 30 minute break)
- 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (8 hours with a 30 minute break)
- 10:00 am - 6:30 pm (8 hours with a 30 minute break)
- Ensure all food produced is to the agreed standard, developing innovative approaches to meet market trends, cultural requirements and Kashrut laws.
- Monitor, meet and record all food hygiene and Health & Safety practices in line with organisational policies and current legislation.
- Work within the agreed budget, administer unit controls and consistently seek and implement ways of improving quality and cost effectiveness.
- Lead, motivate and encourage team building to achieve agreed qualitative outcomes and exceed and maintain customer service expectations.
- Deputise for the Chef in their absence and comply with their responsibilities.
- Appropriate supervisory experience and relevant qualifications pertaining to the safe delivery of Food & Hygiene or Catering Services (NVQ Level 2 or 3).
- Energetic, passionate and proactive attitude.
- Experience of working to deadlines and adhering to budgetary requirements.
- Understanding the challenge of and sensitivity needed to care for and support vulnerable people.
