Sous Chef

Salary: 29K to 34K per year

Location: Streatham Hill

We are seeking an experienced Senior CDP Chef from a well-known brand or an accomplished Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in an independently owned Mexican restaurant and bar in Streatham Hill.

You will oversee a team of 4-5 chefs in an established brand.

About the Business:

A Mexican-themed restaurant and cocktail bar that recently reopened after a full refurbishment.

An independent brand with nearly 30 years of history in London, owned by the same family, with multiple restaurant locations.

The kitchen team consists of 4-5 chefs, supported by 8-10 front-of-house staff.

You will lead a team including a Sous Chef, potentially up to 3 CDP/Commis Chefs, and a Kitchen Porter.

The restaurant operates from 12:00 PM to 11:30 PM on weekdays and until just after midnight on weekends.

Your Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or a Senior CDP from a reputable high street brand.
  • Experience with Mexican or Tex Mex cuisine.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support and develop a diverse kitchen team.
  • Experience in kitchen management and supporting various departments.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for cooking and creating memorable dining experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, ensuring smooth food production and service.
  • Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, promoting teamwork and professional growth.
  • Take on the role of acting Head Chef in the absence of the Head Chef.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety standards and keep the kitchen clean and organized.
  • Work with front-of-house staff to ensure excellent service and customer satisfaction.
  • Support training of new staff on cooking techniques, safety, and procedures.
