TeamWe're an IT intensive business and we operate state of the art, specialised business critical systems 24/7. As we transition to a low carbon energy future, this is an opportunity to make a real impact. The role sits within the Architecture team in the Transformation and Technology Office, which has responsibility for IT strategy, architecture and solution design.
OpportunityThe successful candidate will be responsible for steering IT projects down the right technical paths, managing not only the technical architecture choices but the impact of those choices on the overall solution approach. You will ensure that technology and application platforms are scalable, extensible and cost effective in line with IT strategy and customer needs, lead the creation of solution designs and roadmaps across EirGrid Group's IT estate, and provide thought leadership while advocating industry best practices and principles.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development of solution designs and supporting technical design documentation in compliance with architectural standards and principles.
- Lead the engagement with business and technical IT stakeholders to define and design solutions to meet current and future business needs.
- Develop solution options and influence strategic direction to ensure that the solutions designed are architecturally aligned.
- Grow an in depth understanding of the specific business areas to which you are aligned and understand organisational interdependencies to ensure an enterprise view when designing solutions.
- Working with the Enterprise Architect, define roadmaps, ensuring that the appropriate technology capability benefits are identified and quantified.
- Identify the key investment decision points on existing technologies, ensuring that the appropriate technology capability benefits are identified and quantified.
- Support the establishment, definition, maintenance and communication of architecture guidelines, principles, standards and best practices.
- Develop high level estimates and impact assessments for key technology initiatives.
- Analyse technology industry and market trends and deliver objective and impartial technology and application assessments to support informed decision making.
- Degree or higher in a relevant discipline supported by extensive experience across multiple architecture domains, e.g. application architecture, data architecture, integration architecture, infra, security, development, operations, etc.
- Ability to figure out how technology can be used to solve business problems, translating sometimes ambiguous requirements into solutions within an overall architecture.
- Ability to identify and unblock solution dependencies and obstacles and make judgement calls between pragmatism and an ideal target state.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and "sell" the concepts and objectives to the business, as well as technical leadership.
- Knowledge of the constraints and challenges of supporting a secure high availability IT environment.
