The successful candidate will deliver confident, well-reasoned governance advice to senior colleagues, providing clear guidance on lawful decision making, constitutional matters, and good practice across complex organisational settings. They will support committees and Full Council with authoritative advice, oversee the handling of member conduct complaints and matters relating to the Police and Crime Panel, and provide quality assured oversight of legal guidance offered to maintained schools.

They will bring substantial experience of advising within local government environments, demonstrating sound judgement, political awareness, and the ability to communicate sensitive or high impact issues with clarity. The successful candidate will also contribute to wider governance support across the Corporate and Environmental Law team and Democratic Services, offering flexibility and professionalism while adapting to evolving expectations, including any future review of management responsibilities.
