Sole Gardener

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Sole Gardener to join a beautiful privately owned sporting estate 20 minutes south of Inverness, reporting into the Head Gardener. The Head Gardener is not based at the Scottish estate, but frequently visits.
The garden and grounds include a walled kitchen garden with a large greenhouse, herbaceous borders, a walled herbaceous flower garden, woodland dell area, extensive lawns, new compost bay, and a newly redesigned late season herbaceous border.
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, hardworking, uses their own initiative and has the following skills and experience.
- The Sole Gardener must make sure that the gardens look at its best from September onwards for family shoots and Let days
- Must be enthusiastic and have a positive attitude
- Possess a good plant knowledge and high horticultural skills and understand the practicalities of producing plants from seed and plugs
- Have experience or a strong interest in growing and producing vegetables to a high standard, for use by the main residence, particularly winter vegetables
- Knowledge and experience in producing cut flowers for the main residence.
- Carry out herbaceous border division and re-planting on a regular basis
- Ideally have experience in using and maintaining garden machinery, including an Avant Loader, rotary ride on mower, pedestrian mowers, strimmer's and leaf blowers (handheld and back pack)
- Work with the gardener/groundsman when required
- 3-5 years practical experience on an estate would be desirable, but not essential
- Horticultural qualifications desirable, but not essential
This position is ideal for a well rounded gardener with experience on a private estate or within diverse horticultural settings, who enjoys working outdoors and has a real appreciation for the countryside. It would also suit an enthusiastic individual eager to develop their skills and take the next step in their gardening career.
Accommodation: Live in if required, accommodation provided, 2-3 bedroom detached cottage, with own garden and driveway, council tax included.
Salary: £30,000 - £37,000
Hours: 08.00am Monday - 17.00pm Friday
