We are looking for an experienced and people-focused Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of talented software engineers. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and delivery accountability, ensuring high-quality, secure, and scalable software solutions are delivered in line with business goals and customer needs.

You will foster a high-performance engineering culture, promote continuous improvement, and work closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and other stakeholders to turn complex requirements into robust technical solutions.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, supporting performance, career growth, and wellbeing
  • Plan, prioritise, and deliver engineering work to agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards
  • Promote and ensure adoption of best practices across the SDLC, including coding standards, testing, security, and documentation
  • Collaborate with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Own technical delivery for assigned products or platforms, managing risks, dependencies, and technical debt
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and ways of working (e.g. Agile, CI/CD)
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-quality engineering talent
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK regulations, data protection requirements, and internal governance standards
What We're Looking For Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Professional certifications in Agile, Scrum, or software delivery (e.g. Scrum Master, SAFe) - desirable
  • AWS certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Developer) - desirable
  • Management or leadership training qualifications - advantageous
Essential Experience
  • Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams in a commercial environment
  • Strong hands on background in modern software development, including:
    • Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind
    • Backend: Python, RESTful APIs
  • Experience delivering scalable, reliable, and secure systems in cloud based and distributed environments
  • Extensive experience designing, deploying, and operating solutions on AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, and VPC
  • Strong working knowledge of GitHub, including pull request workflows, branching strategies, and CI/CD (e.g. GitHub Actions)
  • Experience using engineering and operational tooling such as Jira, Confluence, PagerDuty, or similar platforms
  • Solid understanding of Agile and Lean delivery methodologies and modern DevOps practices
  • Experience working with cross-functional and distributed teams
  • Good understanding of software quality, security, observability, and performance best practices
Desirable Experience
  • Familiarity with Azure, Docker, and Terraform
  • Knowledge of UK data protection principles (e.g. UK GDPR) and relevant employment practices
