Currencycloud was acquired by Visa in December 2021. This role sits within Visa's Treasury function, which is responsible for managing global liquidity, cash flow, and risk to keep payments moving smoothly across markets. Treasury ensures funds are available where needed and supports critical processes like settlements and foreign exchange. As part of this team, you'll help build reliable, scalable systems that underpin these operations and enable real-time visibility and control.
As a Mid-Level Software Engineer, you will contribute to building and maintaining platform services and tooling that help product teams deliver real-time features. This is a hands-on role where you'll implement well-designed solutions, collaborate closely with peers, and follow established best practices for reliable, scalable, and observable systems.
Our stack runs on AWS as a set of distributed applications using Kubernetes and a microservice-led architecture. We are also utilising Kafka for our streaming and PACT for contract testing.
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Responsibilities- Develop and maintain backend services and tooling using Java (11+) and Spring Boot, integrating with Kafka, Flink, and related technologies.
- Build frameworks and reusable components that simplify consumption of real-time data capabilities for other teams.
- Implement reliability, scalability, and observability features (metrics, logs, tracing) for platform components.
- Work with cross-functional partners to understand requirements and deliver incrementally in Agile squads.
- Contribute to code reviews, testing, documentation, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Support event-driven architectures by applying patterns and communicating practical benefits to partner teams.
- Strong experience in Java backend (Spring Boot 2.x/3.x preferred) and functional Java (versions 8+).
- Expert knowledge of Docker, EKS, AWS and Kafka.
- Experience with modern cloud-native architectures: high availability, high scalability, microservices, 12-factor apps, CI/CD, observability, and automated testing.
- Experience with testing approaches (TDD, BDD, Contract Testing) and frameworks such as JUnit, RSpec, and Cucumber.
- Agile experience (Scrum or Kanban) in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- DevOps mindset or experience working in a DevOps environment.
- Proven delivery of well-tested, scalable, fault-tolerant, and performant solutions.
- Strong problem-solving, structured thinking, and attention to detail; ability to influence and get buy-in for ideas.
- Comfortable working in a scale-up or growth environment and collaborating with multiple teams.
