What you'll be doing:
  • Provide Software Subject Matter Expertise: Workingacross multiple projects with various programming languages,architectures, and lifecycle models, offering specialist technicaladvice and guidance to peers andprojects
  • Define and DevelopArchitectural Artefacts: Creating, assessing and reviewing softwareand data processing architectures to meet software and systemrequirements and support future re-use of software, ensuringalignment throughout the engineeringlifecycle. Establish and Maintain DesignProcesses: Enhancing transformational activities and tools used todevelop and manage software design artefacts, ensuring robust,resilient, scalable and secure middleware and applicationsarchitectures on modernhardware Ensure Toolchain Compliance andIntegration: Collaborating with DevOps to ensure tools arelicensed, OSS-compliant, interoperable, and integrated into thebuild process Lead Technical Governance:Conduct peer reviews, leading technical design reviews, verify andsign off software designs, and uphold Maritime Services' softwareprocesses Promote Continuous Improvementand Knowledge Sharing: Supporting skills development within theteam, maintain awareness of industry trends, and ensurearchitectural awareness of Security, and Safety Integrity Levels(SILs)
Your skills andexperiences:
  • Extensive experience with at least one high-levelprogramming language and a high-level design methodology such asUML
  • Deep understanding of thesoftware development lifecycle and familiarity with various models,including Agile andWaterfall Proven experience in leadingsoftware development activities and mentoring engineeringteams Solid knowledge of relevantsoftware standards (e.g. ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207), including softwaresafety and Safety Integrity Levels(SIL) Comprehensive understanding ofconfiguration management practices and tools. Strong TechnicalBackground, Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a relatednumerate discipline, with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status orworking towards it

As the Software Architect youwill act as the technical focal point and design authority,developing and maintaining software architectures that meetchallenging complex Radar requirements. Using modern operatingsystems, tools, and design patterns, you will create robust,resilient, scalable and secure middleware and application layersfor hardware. You'll leverage both licensed and open-source tools,ensuring compliance with OSS guidance, and work with the wider teamto ensure a smooth implementation, integration and testprocess.
