What will you be doing?The Standard Software and AI Development Engineer shall report to the discipline manager of the mechanical team and shall work closely with all disciplines within the engineering function in the UK. Key responsibilities are:
R&D Projects- Participate actively in the on going research and development projects related to automation in engineering through standard software and AI tools, with a focus on improving quality, increasing the knowledge retention, enhancing efficiency and reducing lead time.
- Develop the software tools to contribute to the development, testing, and deployment of simulation and analysis toolboxes tailored for various engineering disciplines.
- Design and implement engineering calculation tools as part of the AI development within the function, ensuring robust, reliable, and scalable solutions.
- Integrate established tools and best practices from the Software and AI communities into engineering workflows, promoting standardisation and innovation.
- Incorporate open source contributions, particularly from the Scientific Python community, into engineering related workflows to enhance capability and efficiency.
- Automate the management of libraries and specifications within 3D model suites such as PDM Vault and Plant 3D, streamlining data handling and reducing manual intervention.
- Support the integration of lessons learned in automated platforms and their continuous improvement.
- Train and support engineering teams in the effective use of AI and related tools, promoting a culture of continuous learning and technological adoption.
- Provide support to other business functions for the development and implementation of automated workflows, depending on workload and business priorities.
- Uphold and promote Framatome commitment to nuclear safety and environmental protection.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements within engineering practices.
- Occasional travel to Framatome business units may be required to support project needs and cross site collaboration.
- Degree (or currently pursuing a degree) in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear or related fields).
- Experience with quality systems and design standards applicable to the nuclear industry.
- Experience in engineering activities for nuclear applications, covering disciplines such as mechanical, equipment, electrical engineering etc.
- Experience in application of Python and AI technologies in engineering contexts.
- Working knowledge of engineering lifecycles.
- Working knowledge with 3D modelling tools and the ability to identify and mitigate database related risks.
- Ability to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with various engineering disciplines.
- Ability to set, achieve and maintain high standards of safety and quality.
- Knowledge of nuclear power stations design.
- Knowledge of nuclear safety principles and culture.
- Understanding of engineering supply chain management and contract administration in a nuclear context.
- Participation in 3D model reviews and work with 3D viewers.

- Python (incl. NumPy, Pandas, Xarray), GitLab, SCIPYENV conda, Linux, other open and proprietary tools.
- Familiarity with engineering design and analysis tools.
- This is a part time position (approx. 2 days per week) with flexible working hours, ideal for candidates seeking a balance between professional development and other commitments.
