Job Description
Sister/Charge Nurse - Ward 7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward

This post is fixed term/Secondment for 6 months to meet the needs of the service.

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

Assist in the management and organisation of their clinical area and participating in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

Main duties of the job

All applicants must be a Registered Nurse, with recent experience at Band 5 and meet the Band 6 Job Description person specification. Experience in both pathways is essential for this Senior Nursing post holder.

The position involves working as an Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse on Ward 7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward.

Applicants will also be required to undertake Mentorship of Student Nurses and preceptorship of newly qualified nurses whilst assisting the ward sisters, and ensuring that the Fundamentals of Care are maintained to a high standard.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake
  • Degree in Nursing or relevant clinical/professional subject
Experience
  • Significant post reg experience at band 5
  • Experience within an appropriate clinical area
  • Experience of undertaking audit work and standard setting
Skills.Competence
  • Evidence of good ward organisational skills
  • Negotiate and communicate with patients and members of MDT team
  • IT Skills email, word, myddryn, oracle, TPATH
  • Advanced clinical skills - venepuncture, phlebotomy, ECG
  • Adapt and propose change in working situation
Knowledge
  • Evidence of knowledge and appliaction of consent, data protection, patient confiedniatilty
  • Evidence of local policies and procedures and guidelines
  • Interview and appraisal process
  • Knowledge of management theories
