Job Profile Shop Manager for Gap in the Market shop - supporting funds for The Gap Project

Summary Responsible for the day-to-day running of the shop, from supervising volunteer staff through to merchandising and displaying stock, and working to improve shop performance. We are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial attitude and people management skills, capable of delivering high standards of customer service, people management, efficiency in administration and profitability, in support of The Gap Project Charity. Previous retail management experience is essential.

Hours Core hours 25 hours per week, flexible between Monday and Saturday.

Responsibilities
  • To be responsible for recruitment, induction & training of volunteers; line managing the team and ensuring there is adequate staffing.
  • Maximise shop sales of donated stock, involving proactive stock generation, optimum pricing, processing stock to agreed trading levels, stock planning and use of online sales applications.
  • Maintain high levels of shop presentation by merchandising and housekeeping according to agreed standards as discussed with the Directors.
  • Collaborate with the Directors to achieve increased income, control shop expenditure in line with budget and maximize profits.
  • Ensure adherence to The Gap Project Trading Company policies and procedures, including those relating to health and safety at work, in particular for manual handling and lifting of stock.
  • Complete all administration to a standard and timeliness that meet the requirements of the Company, in particular Company sales and financial records; this includes completion of the shop banking and depositing of the money at Nat West and paperwork to the shop book keeper.
  • Safeguard the shop's stock and money by following banking and till procedures.
  • Manage the clearance of rubbish and unsaleable items on a regular basis through agreed processes and volunteers.
  • Collection of stock donations when and where possible and by arrangement.
  • Manage the shop's profile on social media.
Essential Skills

Retail Management experience; managing staff and volunteers; pricing, selling and merchandising goods. Communicating effectively with different stakeholders and managing shop administration and financial records. IT skills to work with and update spreadsheets are important.

Desirable Skills

Knowledge and experience of the second-hand market.
