Job Introduction

Do you have experience of working as an Interpreter or Translator?

At the moment we have gaps in a few languages:

The Royal Greenwich Interpreting Service (RGIS) provides face to face language interpreters, British sign language (BSL) interpreters and the translation of documents as required to enable residents to access local health services and services provided by the Council.

The RGIS is a confidential service that can help to ensure that non-English speaking clients and patients receive equal access to council services and local health services. RGIS aims to provide interpreting and translation in most languages taking into account the local population demographics. We are covering as many as 137 languages spoken in the borough.

The candidate

The successful candidate will have considerable amount of experience in public service interpreting and translation. A recognised qualification in Interpreting and Translation to a minimum level of Community Interpreting level 3.

Experience of working with health or social care professionals is desirable and other areas of expertise such as medical and legal interpreting are certainly an advantage.

The sessional role is designed around face-to-face engagement, where responsibilities are carried out through direct, in-person interaction with professionals and non-English speaking clients.

This is an open advertisement and interviews will be held at regular times throughout the year.

When applying, please state the language(s) clearly on your application form that you are able to interpret/translate and provide evidence of your language skills and experience in interpreting services and your areas of proficiency.
