Job Description
Job Purpose

As a Sandvik Service Technician based at our Portlaoise workshops, you will support the maintenance, repair and optimisation of Sandvik underground and surface mining equipment across Ireland. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that our customers' machinery operates at peak performance through diagnostics, scheduled servicing, and mechanical and electrical repairs. You will work closely with the local service team and customers, adhering to Sandvik's high standards of safety and quality to minimise downtime and enhance operational efficiency.

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Plan for correct tools and parts in accordance with all work procedures.
  • Commission products, including pre delivery inspections and hot commissioning.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and solve common problems.
  • Identify components, understand basic functionality, and conduct preventive and cost efficient repairs.
  • Suggest possible improvements to customer equipment/processes.
  • Use knowledge and experience to solve standard problems.
  • Understand system functionality and interactions of hydraulics, mechanics, electrics, automation, pneumatics, and materials.
  • Complete maintenance reports for internal and external stakeholders and obtain customer authorisation to invoice.
  • Occasionally collect technical feedback in the Sales Area (inputted into Database).
  • Assign tasks to junior staff and guide them in completion.
  • Coach customer technicians on basic servicing and maintenance principles.
  • Ensure routine work procedures are carried out according to safety standards.
  • Other ad hoc duties as requested by management.
Experience & Qualifications

You are a highly motivated, organised individual with exceptional communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills. You have a can do attitude and thrive in a multi cultural team environment. You can take on and manage tasks with a focus on developing the business and improving current practices and procedures within the operations. A full clean driving licence is required as travel may be necessary from time to time. Training will be provided.

  • Minimum 3-5 years' hands on experience working with heavy construction or agricultural machinery such as excavators, loaders, telehandlers, etc.
  • Proven expertise in hydraulic system maintenance and fault finding, including pumps, valves, cylinders and hoses.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems, including wiring, sensors, control units and CAN bus diagnostics.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and repair faults efficiently.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance schedules and service documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
