Service Lead Radiographer for Plain Film X-ray

University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) Imaging department is looking to recruit dedicated, skilled Diagnostic General Radiographers to our Service Lead Radiographer Team. Roles will be based at County Hospital and within our Community Hospitals Team, with an expectation to rotate as needed to all sites. This is an exciting opportunity to progress your career by leading a portion of our Plain Film X-ray service.
The Service Lead Radiographer will support the Plain Film Team using compassionate leading methodologies to meet the vision of the Imaging department and UHNM. Leading service change and improvements within their area, supporting the Superintendent in managing the day-to-day operational activities of the department as part of the Service Lead Radiographer Team.
UHNM's Plain Film service covers 6 different hospital sites across the county including the Royal Stoke, County Hospital, Haywood Hospital and community units, soon to incorporate UHNM's new CDC.
County Hospital is located in the county town of Stafford. The Imaging department is very well equipped, with 3 DR rooms, 3 DR mobiles, 1 Digital Fluoroscopy/DR Room, 4 Digital Mobile Image Intensifiers. Our Radiographers undertake a wide range of imaging examinations through a variety of shifts and on-call duties.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will be reliable, enthusiastic, hardworking, and committed to developing Imaging services, giving patients and referrers the very best quality of care and service.
- Manage the Plain Film X-ray service in their designated area, including development, implementation, and evaluation of service needs.
- Ensure high standards of patient care across the team and foster an environment for continuous improvement.
- Manage the 24/7 operational delivery of the service, ensuring staff deployment meets patient and referrer needs, with an expectation to undertake out-of-hours work as required.
- Train to complete line management duties, mentoring, and pastoral duties for the Plain Film team.
- Contribute to 24/7 service delivery and work a split clinical/management role.

Person Specification Qualifications and Registration- BSc Diagnostic Imaging
- HCPC registration up to date
- Full HCPC Registration (for those holding a BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or DCR equivalent)
- RPS Training
- Evidence of in-house training in leadership or modality-related (e.g., diploma or similar)
- Postgraduate education in leadership and management or further learning in Management and Leadership (desirable)
- Minimum of 2 years at Band 6/Senior Radiographer level
- Extensive recent experience of Plain Film X-ray, including superuser activities
- Completed RPS course
- Experience of Leading a Team and mentoring
- Sound knowledge and understanding of IRMER and IRR
- Experience at managing equipment and in-depth knowledge of X-ray equipment (desirable)
- Experience in development and review of local SOPs (desirable)
- Show awareness of compassionate leadership, leadership impact, and self-awareness (desirable)
- Experience of audit/support audits and good knowledge of governance (desirable)
- Knowledge of risk and incident management (desirable)
- Experience of DATIX investigations (desirable)
- Experience of coaching and mentoring (desirable)
- Computer literate including Radiology Information Systems/PACs, trust systems, Empactis, E-roster, Careflow, Iportal, etc.
- Knowledge of current guidance, legislation, local/national policy, and governance including IR(ME)R 2017 & IRR2018
- Ability to work under pressure, resourceful in handling multiple work streams; organise and prioritise
