Service Designer
Posted 2 hours 23 minutes ago by Hays Specialist Recruitment
We are looking for an experienced Service Designer to work with our central government client and play a central role in shaping how the service operates as it moves from private beta to public beta. You'll help define how the end to end service works today, identify the gaps and manual processes that exist, and design the roadmap towards a streamlined, digital, scalable service model.
What you'll be doing
- Create service blueprints that clearly show steps, actors, systems, pain points and dependencies.
- Work closely with colleagues developing the Target Operating Model (TOM) to ensure future ways of working align to service design recommendations.
- Identify all offline, manual or non digital processes, such as:
Manual EDP capacity updates
Offline payment processes
Developer-LPA-NE document exchanges
Manual workarounds during MVS development
- Highlight system gaps and the manual effort caused by issues such as:
Lack of Planning Portal APIs
Pending SSCL finance change
Manual data pipelines
Early stage reporting constraints
- Work with operational leads to understand capacity needs and where temporary staffing will be required during beta phases.
- Develop a manual-to-digital transition roadmap, showing:
Which steps will be automated and when
How the service evolves from private public bet
Where operational change is required
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly through artefacts, workshops and stakeholder sessions.
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a Service Designer in complex, multi stakeholder environments.
- Must have worked within Central Government previously
- Strong capability in service blueprinting, process mapping, and designing end to end services.
- Experience identifying manual processes, operational inefficiencies and system gaps.
- Ability to work closely with operations, product, policy and technical teams.
- Comfortable designing and contributing to Target Operating Models and future-state operating designs.
- Confident facilitating workshops and gaining alignment across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Experience working in beta stage digital services is desirable, especially within a government or regulated context.
- Able to translate complexity into clear recommendations and action plans.
In return, you will receive the opportunity to support a major government department, going through large digital transformation. The possibility to work on a short term assignment (4 weeks) on a remote basis for the foreseeable paying up to £700 p/day (in scope of IR35).
