Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer

Locations: Redhill/Birmingham/Glasgow/Chester/Leeds

Binnies UK, part of the RSK Group, is seeking Senior and Principal Mechanical Design Engineers to work on both clean water and wastewater schemes. The role involves delivering engineering solutions from concept design to detailed design for construction.

Key responsibilities

• Producing clear and concise engineering deliverables such as general arrangement drawings, equipment sizing calculations, equipment and material selection, enquiry documentation, datasheets, schedules, and reports.
• Ensuring compliance with in-house procedural & quality systems.
• Coordinating development of key multidiscipline deliverables like P&IDs.
• Managing design interfaces with other disciplines and integrating mechanical design elements into overall projects.
• Collaborating with project teams, other engineering disciplines, Project Managers, estimating, site and commissioning teams, CAD, JV partners, and clients.
• Undertaking technical bid assessments, subcontractor design reviews, and providing technical support on-site.
• Providing technical guidance and supervision to project teams.
• Managing budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.

Person Specification

• Suitable for candidates with a strong technical background in Mechanical Engineering within the water industry or related fields.
• Experience in water and wastewater system design, including equipment specification, hydraulic design, plant layout, and technical/economic evaluations.
• Knowledge of standards, CDM, procurement, and document control processes.
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years related experience.
• Enthusiastic, adaptable, and driven to deliver efficient engineering solutions.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently within multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills and high computer literacy.
• Professional Qualifications: IEng / CEng MIMechE.
• Leadership qualities that foster effective teamwork.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and mentoring others.
• Desire for career progression and staying updated with industry developments.
