Job Title: Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer

Location: Cardiff, UK

Salary: £45,000 to £65,000 + Benefits

A well-established building services consultancy has recently opened a new office in Cardiff. The company is known for delivering high-quality, energy-efficient designs across multiple sectors. They offer full lifecycle support, including feasibility studies, detailed design, construction monitoring, project management, and sustainability advisory. The firm has a strong reputation for staff development and a commitment to low-energy, sustainable building solutions.

The Opportunity
  • Strategic Leadership: Help launch and grow the Cardiff office, build local client relationships, and influence the company's strategy in Wales.

  • Project Portfolio: Work across sectors such as education, healthcare, commercial, residential, and specialist projects including laboratories, hotels, and leisure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery, from feasibility through to project close-out.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, M&E contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development.
  • Contribute to energy performance and sustainability goals, including Part L compliance, dynamic simulation, and BREEAM.
  • Oversee site inspections, CDM compliance, contract administration, cost control, and scheduling.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Chartered Mechanical Engineer or working towards chartership, with strong consultancy experience.
  • Proven track record delivering projects across sectors such as education, healthcare, labs, and commercial buildings.
  • Experience in sustainable design, including energy modelling, Part L compliance, and low or zero carbon systems.
  • Confident in client engagement, project management, and technical leadership.
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior engineers is desirable.
