Job Description
Senior Underwriting Assistant, Underwriting Support

This position is part of the Client Service/UW support team within Operations & Service function and may report to a Senior Specialist, UW Support, Team Leader, or Team Manager. The Senior UW Asst is an individual contributor within the Underwriting Support Unit and is expected to actively develop their knowledge and understanding of the fundamental skills and functions of the underwriting support process, underwriting process, risk analysis, and operational drivers.

Responsibilities
  • This role handles multiple accounts and provides technical guidance to the other junior support staff and acts as the primary contact for queries arising from Broker calls and emails.
  • Partner with underwriters and/or more senior UW Support employees in the end to end processing of new, and renewal business.
  • Identify means to continuously improve the service delivery performance with our COE partners and Brokers. Seek opportunities to adopt new technology to maximise productivity.
  • Oversee quality control processes and, where data quality or performance issues are identified, conduct root cause reviews and proactively suggest solutions/additional controls to eliminate issues.
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with all departments a service is provided to, specifically Underwriting, Finance, Actuarial and Claims.
  • Train on and demonstrate proficiency in utilizing underwriting systems.
  • Provide support in respect of new projects and initiatives, as and when needed.
  • Any other ad hoc tasks, as necessary.
  • Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and responsibilities across Risk, Product and Underwriting.
Qualifications
  • Hold a recognised MCC qualification (or be grandfathered) or be working towards a recognised qualification.
  • Prioritising - able to navigate and switch between multiple proprietary, vendor, web based, and standard computer systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills supported by a friendly and outgoing disposition.
  • Client servicing - ability to anticipate client (internal and external) needs and act proactively.
  • Methodical, accurate and strong attention to detail.
  • Organised, with good planning/time management skills to achieve tight deadlines/targets.
