Senior Treasury Accountant (Based in New Zealand)

This is a senior accounting role in a NZX-listed business. The Senior Treasury Accountant will oversee treasury operations, provide financial analysis, and uphold hedge accounting standards while supporting transformation and advancement across the organisation.
OverviewAuckland, New Zealand-based role focused on back-office treasury activities, hedge accounting, and cross-functional collaboration to inform prudent business decisions. The role includes mentoring peers and serving as a trusted advisor on treasury matters.
Responsibilities- Ensure timely and accurate monthly accounting for treasury transactions, including foreign exchange and debt activities, with procedural enhancements as needed.
- Supervise hedging strategies (foreign exchange, fuel, and interest rate hedges) with thorough documentation and hedge relationship testing.
- Prepare monthly outlooks, quarterly forecasts, and annual budgets, and deliver analyses of variances to support treasury objectives.
- Monitor adherence to Treasury Policy by preparing monthly compliance reports, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and authorising treasury payments in line with policy requirements.
- Provide authoritative advice on treasury matters, including hedging strategies and new funding instruments; support external audits and statutory reporting obligations.
- Lead treasury-related projects by advancing systems and processes, facilitating system upgrades (including Quantum and Reval), and automating manual procedures where feasible.
- Act as a business partner by offering analytical support to front office treasury, corporate finance, and group finance teams to enable informed decision making.
- Mentor and guide members of the treasury accounting team to promote professional development and best practices across the group.
- Engage constructively with stakeholders at all levels, including internal teams and external auditors, to ensure seamless information flow.
- Foster open communication by promptly responding to queries regarding treasury transactions or financial statement disclosures.
- A tertiary qualification in Finance with Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) membership from a recognised professional body.
- A minimum of six years' experience in financial/back-office treasury accounting roles, with at least three years specifically in treasury accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as part of a management team in complex organisations.
- Excellent technical proficiency in accounting processes with strong analytical capabilities.
- Proven experience positively influencing stakeholders through strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Notable leadership experience in mentoring or coaching within finance functions.
- Commitment to teamwork and openness, with a collaborative approach to sharing information and ideas.
- Ability to build rapport quickly with internal colleagues across departments and external partners such as auditors.
