Job Description

Job Overview:

We are seeking a trademark counsel / senior counsel to join the IP team within our in-house Legal function.

This is an opportunity to join our business at an exciting time as Arm's business continues to grow, and with that the importance of our brands. Reporting to Arm's Principal Trademark Counsel, you will be a qualified and commercially minded trademark attorney familiar with experience across the full lifecycle of trademark related matters including filing, prosecution, protection, and disputes. You will play an important role in executing Arm's trademark strategy.

Our UK Legal team is predominantly based in Cambridge, UK, although we will also consider candidates interested in working from our Manchester office.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating clearance searches and providing legal advice to the business, including legal opinions, usage, and risks.
  • Managing trademark prosecution activities, including establishing multi-jurisdictional filing programs and working with international counsel to secure protection.
  • Portfolio management and renewals.
  • Preparing oppositions, cancellation, and invalidation actions.
  • Handling matters related to company name disputes, such as challenging and negotiating trademark coexistence agreements, as well as domain name disputes.
  • Supporting brand protection activities.
  • Advising the business and developing guidance for internal users and third parties on brand usage.
  • Collaborating with our corporate development team on M&A transactions.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified trademark attorney with good knowledge of UK, EU, and US trademark systems (global experience highly valued).
  • Experience with online brand enforcement tools and IP monitoring software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deliver practical, commercial advice aligned with Arm's strategy and culture in a clear, solutions-focused manner.
  • Proactive, adaptable, autonomous, yet collaborative approach.

Nice to Have Skills and Experience:

  • In-house experience at a global corporation is advantageous, especially with a demonstrated interest in moving in-house and commercial ability.
  • Experience with in-house IP management systems.
  • Exposure to open-source software IP matters, including trademark usage in software environments.
