Senior to Associate Mechanical Engineers - Data Centres (Building Services)

WSP has an opportunity for an experienced Senior to Associate Mechanical Engineer in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh office, focusing on the Data Centre sector with our Mission Critical Facilities team. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and technically challenging projects within this fast paced sector. WSP is currently involved in numerous projects, working with colocation providers, end users and enterprise clients, both within the UK and across EMEA.
Responsibilities- Support the team in developing designs for mechanical distribution systems (CHW, HVAC, Fuel, LTHW)
- Provide advice to clients regarding mechanical systems/requirements to meet their business needs.
- Lead the design of data centre mechanical systems and equipment.
- Provide written reports of system options in the form of design development notes.
- Produce technical specifications for mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
- Ensure coordination with other disciplines including architecture and structural engineering.
- Produce calculations, technical/equipment specification documentation for tender.
- Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employers' requirements, design specifications and all relevant safety codes.
- Work using own initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of the discipline or have specific specialist experience applicable to the role.
- Work under the clear direction of the client and interpret the needs of the project as a whole to meet the delivery requirements.
- Work in a joint leadership capacity within an MEP discipline team providing design and technical advice in a WSP project manager capacity on a wide range of projects.
- Complete the detailed designs of mission critical facilities and all mechanical systems associated to data centres.
- Consider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline and lead the overall feasibility study for the project.
- Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specifications for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
- Review the detailed design programme and ensure that sufficient resources are available to complete the works.
- Knowledge and experience in designing mechanical systems for data centres.
- Chartered status (or working towards Chartered status) with CIBSE or IMechE or equivalent experience.
- Technical MEP knowledge of relevant UK and EU regulations, design guides, etc.
- Understanding of the Uptime Institute Tier Classification System.
- Flexible approach to meet the demands of projects.
- Working understanding of TAS of IES and HEVACOMP to allow the allocation/director of work on projects.
- Understanding of working with RevitMEP or other 3D design software to allow allocation/director of work on projects.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD to allow allocation/director of work on projects.
- Able to work as part of a team as well as ability to effectively lead, direct and mentor individuals within and outside of the WSP team.
- Experience working to timescales and deadlines.
- Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
