The Senior Test Analyst is responsible for creating test cases based on detailed technical analysis of both functional and non-functional specifications (such as reliability, efficiency, usability, maintainability, and portability). They create traceability records linking test cases to requirements. They produce automated and manual test scripts, materials, and regression test packs to test new and amended software or services.
The Senior TA specifies requirements for environment, data, resources, and tools. They interpret, execute, and document complex test scripts using established methods and standards. They record and analyze actions and results, maintain a defect register, review test results, and modify tests as needed. They also report on progress, anomalies, risks, and issues, and provide metrics on test cases. The role includes mentoring TAs and Trainee TAs.
About the role
- Analyze functional and non-functional specifications to determine test requirements.
- Experience with automated test tools.
- Identify gaps in information and resolve them.
- Specify requirements for environment, data, resources, and tools.
- Plan, estimate, and schedule phase tests, including early life cycle validation and verification.
- Design and produce reusable test scripts, procedures, and regression test packs.
- Interpret and execute complex test scripts, monitor progress, and document results.
- Use diagnostic tools and documentation to identify and report system errors.
- Review test results, produce reports on system quality, and provide guidance to colleagues.
- Review and test non-functional aspects of systems.
- Guide team members and prioritize testing tasks.
- Mentor junior staff and deputize for the Lead Test Analyst.
- Maintain knowledge of specific specialisms and execute related tasks.
About you
- Identify information gaps and experience with automated testing tools.
- Scripting experience with Cucumber/WebDriver IO, Playwright, Postman, or ReadyAPI.
- Break down problems systematically and resolve them.
- Influence where automation adds value.
- Familiar with testing techniques and tools across the testing lifecycle.
- Experience with applications or processes benefiting testing teams.
- Possess specialist knowledge in business functions, technology, or automation tools.
- Work collaboratively, proactively, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
