Job Description

The Senior Technical Accounting Manager is an integral role within the Accounting, Reporting & Control team that is responsible for the integrity of the reported financial results of Virgin Media O2 (VMO2). We provide clarity, insight and advice to a varied list of internal stakeholders and external shareholders. The importance of the role performed by the team is significant, ensuring accuracy and compliance across each of the reporting requirements of VMO2.

Reporting to the Head of Accounting, Reporting and Control, you will:

  • Provide International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) technical accounting and accounting policy direction, assistance, and advice to the whole of Virgin Media O2 on all relevant matters.
  • Partner closely with finance business partners regarding accounting policy assessments on any new contracts, products and business opportunities and is responsible for helping establish and maintain Virgin Media O2 accounting policies.
  • Review commercial contracts and provide direction to the business and significant input to develop appropriate legal language to support the appropriate accounting conclusion.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with our shareholders to ensure they are well informed of and in agreement with the changes and conclusions made to our accounting policies and conclusions reached.
  • Work with external auditors to acquire approval of all accounting principles embraced by the business.
  • Take a leading role in developing and coordinating accounting policy training to ensure a robust framework of understanding across finance and a well-informed workforce enabling self-serve.
  • Provide flexibility to assist the financial reporting and accounting control teams with special projects, including mergers and acquisitions, business combinations / disposals, debt issuances and refinancing.
  • Prepare accurate, good quality and robust technical accounting papers.
  • Assist in the annual goodwill impairment assessment.

The must haves

In order to be considered, you must have the following experience;

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant or equivalent experience, with a proven technical accounting background
  • Strong in-depth knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP accounting principles
  • Experience of resolving complex accounting issues and transactions; formation and review of detailed accounting position papers

  • Experience reading/reviewing and deciphering contracts to determine an appropriate accounting treatment
