Office Attendance - Our roles are hybrid; however, you should be able to travel to our Edinburgh office 2 days per week for this position.

We're looking for a skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our Containers Platform team at Tesco Bank, part of Barclays Bank UK Plc.

You'll play apivotal role in designing and optimizing our container platform, leveragingAmazon EKS to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient solutions.

This role will bekey in enabling cloud-native transformation, influencing how we deploy and manage workloads across our Kubernetes cluster.

You'll get to play a large part in helping to shape and modernise our application workloads and bring these on to the platform.

You'll work closely withsenior leadership and engineering teams, shaping future ways of working and contributing to strategic platform decisions.

It's agreat time to joinas we scale our emerging containers platform-your contributions will directly impact its evolution.

Unlike many roles, you'll haveownershipof container solutions, from design to deployment, in afast-moving, cloud-native environment. You'll influenceplatform standards and best practices, not just follow them.

You'll work alongsideother Containers Team Systems Engineers, DevOps Specialists, Application and Security Engineering teams and be close to our Design and Architect functions.

Reporting to theEngineering Lead, you'll collaborate withProduct Owners, the Product Manager and Agile delivery teams.

You will have the opportunity to gaincertificationssuch asCKA/CKAD, working your way towards becoming a fully certified Kubestronaut! 6 Days per year of dedicated training is offered for all colleagues.

You'll get hands-on withAmazon EKS,Docker,Terraform,Helm,DataDog, GitLab and have future opportunities to get involved with service mesh technologies.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage and optimize EKS clusters, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate withcross-functional teamsto integrate container solutions into broader cloud architecture.
  • Contribute tothe platform roadmap, introducing innovative solutions for scalability and cost optimization.
  • Providetechnical leadership and mentorshipto junior engineers.
  • Oversee the configuration, maintenance, and optimization ofEKS clusters, including node groups, networking, and storage.
  • Analyse and optimize container workloads forcost efficiency, resource utilization, and high availability.

We need you to have

  • Proven experience withAmazon EKSand Kubernetes architecture.
  • Proficiency inusing CI/CD tools(e.g., Jenkins/Cloudbees, GitHub/GitLab).
  • Expertise inAWS servicessupporting EKS (IAM, VPC, NLB/Ingress, Secrets Manager).
  • Solid understanding ofnetworking and securityin containerized environments.

And if you have any of these, even better

  • Familiarity withservice mesh technologies(e.g., Istio) and observability stacks.
  • Experience with Karpenter or EKS Auto
  • Knowledge of Serverless integrations with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with the following service components (Kubewarden, Cillium, Traefik, Karpenter, Qualys, CoreDNS, kube-proxy)
