Job Description

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 + 10% performance bonus, + regional allowance

Working location: Nationwide, Homebased

Job summary:

As a Senior Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing risk across NHBC's warranty products and building control services, ensuring projects meet all customer, statutory, and technical requirements. You will act as a Registered Building Inspector, with a Class Registered no less than 2F/ Class 3.

This senior-level role demands technical excellence, proactive risk management, and strong collaboration to ensure the successful delivery of safe, high-quality developments.

What you'll be doing:

  • Assess high-risk applications, supervise and support less experienced inspectors, and advise on critical technical elements throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Work closely with developers, builders, and their professional teams from design to completion to ensure proposals comply with NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, and national requirements.
  • Manage activities on complex residential developments, typically over 11 meters in height, providing expert guidance on building control and warranty matters.
  • Ensure compliance with NHBC and HSE safety requirements.
  • Support inspection staff in managing Building Regulation and Warranty aspects, including inspection of high-risk/complex elements, key inspection stages, and progress review.
  • Survey and assess buildings and proposals for Buildmark Conversions, including advice, reports, and insurance cover decisions.
  • Possess experience in forensic investigations, defect identification, and repair of buildings.

What we're looking for:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal and presentational abilities.
  • Experience in training and mentoring teams.
  • Experience in warranty risk management.
  • Extensive construction industry experience, particularly in Building Control.
  • Experience in plan appraisal for residential developments and non-residential uses.
  • Ability to guide builders, consultants, and NHBC on Building Regulation & NHBC Standards.
  • Proactive in resolving customer complaints and managing conflicts effectively, with appropriate escalation.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Relevant accredited HND/HNC qualification or substantial industry experience.
  • Must be a Registered Building Inspector, with a minimum of 2F and 3 BSR Class.
