Job Description
Senior Substance Misuse Nurse

Responsibilities
  • Lead mental health assessments and care for residents with dual diagnosis needs.
  • Work independently, managing your own caseload.
  • Collaborate closely with the prison's mental health team, psychosocial services, and wider healthcare colleagues.
  • Deliver specialist clinical and mental health interventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and risk evaluations.
  • Administer medication and opioid substitution therapy.
  • Support service development and continuous improvement.
  • Supervise junior staff and contribute to team leadership.
  • Promote trauma informed care and health education.
Qualifications
  • RMN qualification with post graduate education or equivalent experience.
  • RCGP Level 1 (or working towards) in Substance Misuse.
Skills
  • Strong assessment, caseload management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • IT literacy and familiarity with clinical systems (e.g. SystmOne).
Experience
  • Experience in substance misuse and mental health care.
  • Experience in prison or secure settings.
Administrative Requirements
  • Subject to security vetting; requires continuous UK residency for a minimum of 3 years and evidence of residency.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service check required under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
