Job Description
Overview

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the role of Senior Staff Nurse to work on Buckley Ward at Woodview Unit, Pendleview. This is a full-time position. The closing date is 30 September 2025.

The post holder will provide nurse leadership within the multidisciplinary team, ensure effective assessment, formulation, planning and monitoring of care for inpatient service users, oversee and ensure all contacts with service users are recorded promptly and to a high standard, and provide information and support to assist service development and Clinical Governance requirements (e.g., surveys, audits).

You must have proven clinical skills along with excellent communication skills, a good knowledge and understanding of adult mental health and the needs of individuals. A working knowledge of the Care Programme Approach, NICE guidance and enhanced risk assessment is required, with the ability to explore issues relating to the impact of health and social needs on mental health and well-being.

Responsibilities

Inpatient wards/units are designed to meet the acute holistic needs of service users/patients and carers in a recovery-focused environment. The post holder will:

  • Support staff in the assessment, planning and provision of care in line with national and local nursing and health and safety policy.
  • Exercise professional accountability and responsibility, demonstrating use of professional skills, knowledge and expertise in the provision of high-quality care.
  • Lead improvements in care through the use of research, audits and enquiry.

Person Specification Education / Qualifications
  • On-going registration with the NMC.
  • Specialist qualification or equivalent level in skills and development.
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive issues with tact.
Knowledge
  • Understanding of Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and practice of Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Knowledge and practice of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how research has influenced practice.
  • Evidence of recent professional/personal development.
Experience
  • Supervision and management of staff.
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of assessing, planning and implementing and reviewing care needs.
  • Experience of mentoring/assessing student staff.
  • Experience of CPA (Care Programme Approach).
Personal
  • Ability to undertake effective aggression management including the use of physical restraint (where appropriate).
  • Skill in motivating and managing change in self and others.
