What you will do:
  • Take full personal, professional and legal responsibility for your own specialist caseload, working independently while seeking support and supervision when required.
  • Carry out detailed communication and swallowing assessments using both formal and informal tools, including perceptual analysis and in-depth language assessment, to support accurate clinical decision making and contribute to differential diagnosis and prognosis.
  • Provide clear and compassionate explanations to residents, families and carers about complex communication, voice and swallowing difficulties.
  • Contribute actively to multidisciplinary team working, attending and participating in relevant clinical and management meetings, and providing specialist Speech and Language Therapy input to care planning and decision-making.
  • Manage swallowing programmes in collaboration with nursing teams, kitchen staff and dietitians to ensure safe swallowing practices and appropriate nutritional intake.
  • Assess the need for communication aids and support residents and carers in their safe and effective use.
Requirements:
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience of managing a caseload involving assessment and treatment of dysphagia
  • Experience of working with families
  • Evidence of continuing Professional Development
