OverviewSenior Specialist Occupational Therapist - The closing date is 30 September 2025. We are seeking an energetic and motivated Band 7 Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our paediatric OT service at Evelina London Children's Hospital. This is a fixed term/part-time post. The post holder will work as part of the Evelina REACH team and outpatient Stroke/ABI Recovery clinics.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will deliver clinical care across the Stroke/ABI Recovery Clinic and Evelina REACH Services.
In the Stroke/ABI Recovery Clinic, you will collaborate with a specialist neuropsychologist to lead face-to-face and virtual clinics, offering specialist consultation across occupational domains. Children may present with complex medical and/or neurodevelopmental needs, requiring flexible, individualised recommendations.
The Evelina REACH team provides protocol-driven upper limb rehabilitation for children with asymmetric upper limb presentation. Approaches include bimanual therapy, modified constraint-induced movement therapy, and goal-directed, task-based occupational therapy. You will conduct detailed assessments and deliver targeted interventions in partnership with families and community therapists to support children's goals in self-care, school, and play.
Liaison with professionals in health, education, and social care to ensure holistic, child-centred care is essential. The role includes supervising students, supporting team-wide clinical standards, and contributing to service development alongside clinical specialist OTs.
Ongoing professional development is supported through training, reflection, and wider learning opportunities, participating in audits, journal reviews, service evaluations, and potentially research. Strong communication and collaborative working skills are essential to delivering integrated, high-quality care.
About usThis Band 7 Occupational Therapist (OT) post is within the paediatric OT service at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, at the St Thomas' Hospital site. The paediatric OT team consists of 20 paediatric occupational therapists, and two occupational therapy assistants. We are a dynamic and welcoming team with a clear focus on continued professional development and progression across all pillars of practice is encouraged.
You will be responsible for supporting the development of knowledge and skills for junior members of staff working in this area and will contribute to service development. There is also the opportunity to further develop specialist knowledge and skills in assessment and intervention for children within your caseload as you will work in consultation with the clinical specialist OT's working in the relevant services.
You will be supervised by clinical specialist staff within the paediatric occupational therapy team, and supported by the clinical lead for paediatric Occupational Therapy and professionally managed by the Trust Head Occupational Therapist.

Person Specification Knowledge/Qualifications- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Masters level or equivalent training in specialist area or evidence of significant practical experience, research or publication in specialist area.
- DBS clearance
- Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g. RCOT, BACD)
- Experience commensurate with a senior specialist paediatric occupational therapist role.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and post-registration education and training relevant to Neurology and Upper Limb Rehabilitation
- Experience of working with children with complex neurological disabilities
- Experience of risk management within clinical setting
- Experience of working in partnership with parents and other professionals
- Experience of working with children who have had a stroke and their families
- Experience of research, audit and/or service development
- Specialist knowledge, understanding and application of Occupational Therapy process relating to client-centred practice
- Specialist knowledge, application and analysis of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools (e.g., cognition, upper limb, activities of daily living)
- Ability to work autonomously, setting own priorities
- Experience of working within multidisciplinary diagnostic and intervention services
- Commitment to improving the experience of children, families and carers, appreciating the complexity of context and culture of diversity
- Evidence-based practice in paediatric settings
- Experience of using neurological and developmental outcome measures
- Knowledge of splinting skills and techniques
