Job Title: Senior Python AI & Data Engineer
Job Description
This Full time role, based in Sheffield, focuses on designing and delivering intelligent data workflows that connect enterprise systems with large language models and agentic AI solutions. You will develop and evolve a Gen AI-powered case management platform that enables users to retrieve accurate summaries, insights, and recommendations from both structured and unstructured data. As a Senior engineer, you will provide technical leadership, drive the adoption of modern AI engineering practices, and ensure that AI-powered solutions are robust, scalable, and reliable.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain Python-based services and data processing solutions that power AI-driven case management capabilities.
- Build, implement and optimise data pipelines that connect enterprise applications and systems with AI and large language model platforms.
- Create, refine and optimise prompts and AI workflows to improve the quality, accuracy and relevance of AI-generated outputs.
- Support and drive the adoption of agentic AI capabilities and automation across investigative and case management processes.
- Work with both structured and unstructured data sources, ensuring data is properly ingested, transformed and prepared for AI and analytics.
- Ensure that information retrieved through AI systems is accurate, reliable and aligned with business and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and technology teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Provide technical leadership within the team, including mentoring junior engineers and guiding best practices in AI and data engineering.
- Contribute to the delivery of scalable AI-powered solutions that improve investigative processes through automation and intelligent insights.
- Help establish and promote modern AI engineering practices, including agentic workflows, prompt engineering and AI-assisted development.
Essential Skills
- Strong Python development experience, including building production-grade services and data processing components.
- Proven data engineering experience, with the ability to design, implement and maintain robust data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience working with AI, Generative AI or machine learning solutions in a practical, production-oriented context.
- Practical prompt engineering experience, including designing, testing and optimising prompts for large language models.
- experience handling large and complex datasets, including managing data quality, transformation and integration.
- Solid understanding of enterprise integration patterns and how to connect multiple systems and platforms in a reliable way.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose complex issues and design effective solutions.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of technical initiatives and provide leadership within a multidisciplinary team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- experience with Gemini or other large language model platforms.
- experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Hands-on experience in agentic AI development and orchestrating agent-based workflows.
- Knowledge of AI-assisted software development tools and practices.
- experience in financial services or other highly regulated environments.
- Demonstrable practical application of Generative AI, agentic workflows, automation, prompt engineering and AI-assisted development.
