In addition DoneDeal Cars is Ireland's largest marketplace for cars, providing the widest selection of cars from both private sellers and trusted dealers. We are seeking to recruit a Backend focused Senior Software Engineer to join one of our DoneDeal.ie development teams. The successful candidate must have a passion for building phenomenal software and will thrive in a fun, fast paced and challenging environment.

This is more than just a technical role, you and your team will own some of the most important parts of our marketplaces: user trust and safety, fraud prevention, user accounts, ad creation, private seller monetisation and provide support and tooling for our world class CX team.

Remote first position within Ireland.

What will I be doing

Software Engineers at Distilled build the core services to support our different products, websites and apps. We strive to use the best technologies for a job and are continuously upgrading our technology stack.

Here's just some of the things you'll work on:

• Take responsibility for defining and delivering the solutions for complex features for the DoneDeal platform
• Work independently and mentor junior team members successfully
• Explore generative AI opportunities to help build better products faster
• Always strive to ensure our codebase is clean, scalable and secure
• Be an advocate for coding standards within the team
• Keep abreast of new technologies and ways of working
• Work with other like minded developers as part of an Agile team.
• Work closely with our product and site reliability teams.

What skills and experience do I need

• At least 6 years proven ability in a similar role.
• Excellent knowledge of Java and Object Oriented design principles.
• Experience and understanding of IoC and ORM frameworks.
• Solid understanding of databases such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
• Experience building RESTful APIs.
• Very familiar with and a daily user of AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code and Cursor
• A self starter with an analytical approach who is comfortable working on their own initiative and handling their time effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills.
• A passion for technology and a hunger to adopt new industry trends.

Advantage if you have

• Experience using Spring, ElasticSearch, AWS, Docker and container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Experience using Jenkins or GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
• Experience building microservices and working with messaging queues.
• Experience of Prometheus / Grafana for monitoring/alarming of services.
• A degree or masters in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field.
