Senior Research Officer - Cyber & Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) vacancy

Salary: £Excellent Contract rate (can be disclosed upon application)

We are working with a key Government department to appoint a highly skilled Senior Research Officer to operate at the strategic "system of systems" level, driving cyber security risk mitigation and resilience planning across Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).

This role is suitable for someone with deep expertise in cyber security, operational resilience, and stakeholder engagement-particularly those with experience in protecting CNI from evolving global cyber threats.

Responsibilities

• Operate at the strategic, enterprise, and national level, assessing risk across global systems.
• Apply expert knowledge of cyber security risk identification and mitigation in the international CII (Critical Information Infrastructure) space.
• Map dependencies across telecommunications, energy, essential digital services, industry, finance, and banking sectors.
• Contribute to capacity building for cyber resilience within CNI.
• Engage and influence senior stakeholders in government, industry, and international partners.
• Analyse and assess complex technical and operational risks, providing clear, actionable recommendations.

Essential Experience & Skills

• Strategic-level thinking with a global systems view.
• Proven track record in cyber security risk mitigation and CNI protection.
• Experience spanning multiple sectors: telecommunications, energy, finance, digital services, etc.
• In-depth understanding of modern information system architecture and globally distributed services.
• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Stakeholder engagement at the highest levels.
