Job Description

Are you also curious about contributing to Ofwat Innovation Fund Projects focusing on wastewater? Then, read on. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and innovative senior engineer or scientist to push the boundaries of Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I) at Thames Water.

What you will be doing as a Senior Research Engineer/Scientist
  • Leading research, development, and innovation activities.
  • Leading project-related activities, providing innovative solutions to challenges faced by the water sector.
  • Maintaining an innovative outlook and curiosity for wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Scanning for new technologies or strategies to address significant water sector challenges.
  • Initiating RD&I projects and contributing technically to others.
  • Designing, planning, implementing, and monitoring activities for high-quality outputs.
  • Analyzing data (preferably using Python, MATLAB, or similar) to produce robust results and insights.
  • Writing and reviewing technical reports for stakeholders.
  • Presenting project outputs at meetings.
  • Developing relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Promoting RD&I initiatives to stakeholders.

This is a hybrid role based at Reading Sewage Treatment Works, with attendance as required by project needs. The role is 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A valid UK driving license is required.

What you should bring to the role
  • Graduate in science, engineering, or relevant discipline.
  • Industrial experience in a related field.
  • Technical knowledge of utilities or similar industries.
  • Practical skills in operation and maintenance of pilot plants.
  • Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
